Highlights of my Cabin FM afternoon show on Tuesday 22 October 2024 featuring a TV theme special in the second hour – everything from Howard’s Way and EastEnders to The Golden Girls and The Fall Guy, plus a brilliant poem from Susan Norvill called ‘The Poet’s Dream’. There is also a return to the battle of Eurovision 1970 between Dana and Mary Hopkin, plus reviews of films including ‘Smile 2’ and a look at what was happening on 22 October in history.
The Poet’s Dream
I dreamt last night of Shakespeare
And tragi-comic prose,
Of mice and men and Agnes Grey
And how great minds compose.
My head was all aflutter
With old and new extremes,
And I was winning contests
Though I was dreaming dreams.
I dreamt last night of Milton
And how Paradise was lost,
How Alice found her wonderland,
Yet at what personal cost?
I fought with rhyme and meter
But they just laughed at me,
Their malevolence was frightening
And almost claimed my sanity.
I dreamt last night of Wordsworth
And loneliness sublime,
Of being made the laureate
As he was in his time.
I woke in exultation,
But this soon turned to rage
As I spied my writing table
And another empty page.
