Here are highlights from my Cabin FM afternoon show on Tuesday 5 November 2024, including an interview with Krysia Waldock about her work on disability and autism. Krysia also picked two of the records – from Duran Duran and Blondie. There are 80s belters from Ray Parker Jr., George Michael and Philip Bailey & Phil Collins, plus music from Cheryl Cole, Gabrielle, Whitney Houston, Dolly Parton, Neil Sedaka and Madonna. I also review ‘Heretic’ which is showing at the Kavanagh, and there is a look at what is happening in and around Herne Bay, plus On This Day In History and celebrity birthdays, and another exceptional poem from Susan Norvill.

The Day The World Stopped Turning

‘The day the world stopped turning
The blossom still kissed the tree,
The silent earth embraced its fold
And looked for harmony.

We could not lead our hectic lives,
Our plans were all as dust,
But the breeze still touched our faces,
And the world still begged our trust.

We came a little closer,
Though we were all alone,
Our souls a fragment calmer
In the bosom of our home.

The wind laments our past lives,
But quiets our stinging tears,
As we lament the selfishness
Of our carefree, feckless years.

The day the world stopped turning
It took my breath away,
I could not understand my life
As day succeeded day.

The clocks no longer matter,
But the birds still sing as sweet,
And our hearts are filled with yearning
For the world we now retreat.’
