Highlights from the Cabin Breakfast Club on Wednesday 6 November 2024 – Chris Deacy covers the US Presidential election results with music associated with many of the 50 states. So, as the results were coming in you can expect to hear tracks from the Detroit Spinners, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Texas, The Miami Sound Machine, as well as Perry Como’s classic ‘Delaware’, ‘Dakota’ from The Stereophonics, ‘Virginia Plain’ from Roxy Music and ‘Massachusetts’ from The Bee Gees… plus one or two surprises.

I know that the result surprised or upset many people, but the best therapy for me was sitting in a radio studio while the results were coming in – and it was increasingly clear as the show went on what the outcome was going to be – and playing music associated with the states that were voting. I couldn’t feature all 50 but I got through quite a few, and it was a privilege to play some beautiful, often soothing, tunes as a respite from the overall turbulence and excitement. So for both political junkies and musical aficionados there is hopefully something in here for everyone, whichever candidate you wanted to win.
