Highlights from my Cabin FM afternoon show on Tuesday 14 January 2025 featuring an interview with filmmaker Howard Perry and five classic duets from the 1980s. There is also community news, On This Day In History, birthdays, and reviews of ‘We Live In Time’ and ‘Better Man’, plus a beautiful poem from Susan Norvill – ‘New Ways: A Sonnet’.

New Ways – A Sonnet

New ways creep in as ageing takes its toll,
With going out replaced by staying home,
A fine white wine or gentle garden stroll
Appreciated fully when alone.

The lure of golf becomes a heady thought
And pruning plants a sudden, bizarre urge,
Contentment grows from daily pleasures wrought
By understanding we must re-emerge.

Our lives have changed, the children are all gone,
The Radio Times now our dearest friend,
Appreciation that we still belong
But follow now our own path, not mere trends.

Take comfort in the wisdom of these years,
And treasure what you love in this new sphere.

Susan Norvill, 14 January 2025
