Highlights from my Cabin FM show on Tuesday 11 February 2025 featuring my special guest, Julie Wassmer, author of the Whitstable Pearl series of books (and adapted for TV). Julie is also an acclaimed scriptwriter, having written for EastEnders and London’s Burning, and she reveals a few other exciting adventures from her past. The show also includes 80s belters from A-ha, Michael Jackson and The Four Tops, as well as community and film news (including reviews of ‘A Real Pain’ and ‘Presence’), a sonnet from Susan Norvill, plenty of nostalgia, and On This Day In History.
Sonnet on The Written Word
Oh, healing pleasure of the written word!
Which transcends every race and every creed,
In sobering beauty so exquisite heard
Where wisdom’s found and dreams to be believed.
Expunge your mind of transient, shallow thoughts,
Embrace the aesthete’s tender crafted prose,
Unfurling passion on the pages wrought
By greater souls who lived but to compose.
Undaunted, they portrayed their lives and times
With lasting charm and unrelenting thirst,
Those novelists who penned such soulful lines
Should be forever lauded, not accursed.
Take heed and spin your own sweet gossamer thread,
Though you may be disparaged when you’re dead.
