Highlights from my Cabin FM show on Tuesday 25 February 2025 including an interview with Maryna Poltavska from Canterbury for Ukraine who talks about her experience of the war breaking out in her native country exactly three years ago. There are 80s belters from Diana Ross, Gloria Estefan and Tears For Fears, a poem from Susan Norvill, ‘Ode to the English’, community news, reviews of films showing at the Kavanagh including ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’, birthdays, and a look at what was happening on 25 February in history.

Ode to The English

When the kettle’s fairly whistling and the pot out for a brew,
The English are behind it, I can almost promise you.
Oh, this panacean nectar is a veritable cure
For life’s disheartening moments,
‘Shall I be Mum and pour?’

‘That dental work was crippling? I’ll go and make some tea,
These sugar lumps are small love, so I’ve kindly added three.’
‘Your latest boyfriend’s left you? Shame, I’ll put the kettle on,
You mark my words, Delilah, they don’t know right from wrong.’

‘Another cup there, Jimmy? I’ll get the bourbons out,
You want a custard cream you say? There is a pack about.’
Oh, we live for tea and biscuits, morning, noon and night!
And who can really blame us for they set the world to rights.
