Badminton and chips

A moment on the lips,

A lifetime on the hips,

We quash that utter nonsense 

With our badminton and chips!

Bedecked in stretchy lycra

We wend our subtle way,

To entertain upon the court, 

A skilful game we play.

Muscles toned and eyes ablaze

We dive into the game,

The lycra stretching admirably 

Upon each supple frame. 

Some turn in admiration,

While some just turn away,

An envious glint within the eye

To see this bold display.

Flashing lycra, flying limbs,

The atmosphere is tense,

The envy of Olympians,

Our standing quite immense.

And after thrashing wildly,

The stomach states it’s time

To hit the cafe coffee,

It’s early still for wine. 

We settle down to wholesome chips,

And whatever else he sells,

The barista he adores us,

The belles of Tunbridge Wells!
